TAJIKISTAN SCAN to BIM PROJECT
PROJECT DETAILS
THE PROJECT AIM
The aim was to determine the current condition of a hotel building in Tajikistan, where the structural construction phase had been completed, and to prepare the As-Built model before the mechanical and electrical projects were implemented.
In this context, all reality capture techniques, such as laser scanning, photogrammetry, drone panorama, and panoramic video, were utilized within the project.
Using the obtained 3D point cloud data, the BIM (Building Information Modeling) model of the project was created at the LOD350 detail level.
METHODS USED IN THE MEASUREMENT PROCESS
Laser Scanning: Laser scanning technology was used to precisely measure all the details of the structure in 3D. The high-accuracy point cloud obtained serves as the fundamental data for creating a detailed digital copy of the building. The laser scanning method records the existing condition of the building down to the finest details, providing accurate data for subsequent design phases.
Photogrammetry: The photogrammetry technique was used to obtain 3D models from photographs. The combination of drone and ground photography provided high-resolution images that offered detailed information about the building’s exterior facades and surroundings. This method not only obtained visual data but also contributed to creating a holistic digital model that helps to understand the relationship between the building and its environment.
Drone Panorama: Panoramic shots taken using drones provided 360-degree bird’s-eye views of the building. These images offered a general perspective on the building’s location and surroundings, helping us to understand the project’s scope and environmental context.
Panoramic Video: Panoramic video recordings were used to examine the building’s interior and exterior spaces in detail. This method provides a visual reference for future planning and design processes.
BIM MODELLING PROCESS
All the data obtained was processed using Autodesk Revit modeling software, and a BIM model of the hotel building was created at the LOD350 level. The LOD350 detail level includes the modeling of all components within the primary structural elements of the building.
This model is crucial for the accurate implementation of mechanical and electrical projects. Additionally, it can serve as a guiding reference in the future maintenance and management processes of the project.
RESULTS
This project has been a comprehensive study where all reality capture techniques were integrated.
The combined use of technologies such as laser scanning, photogrammetry, drone panorama, and panoramic video ensured high accuracy and detail at all stages of the project. The resulting BIM model not only accurately reflected the current state but also greatly facilitated the implementation of clash detection analyses needed for the mechanical and electrical projects.
THE BENEFITS of BIM MODELLING
The BIM model created at the LOD350 level in this project not only documented the current state of the structure but also provided numerous benefits to the project:
Detailed and Accurate Data: The BIM model represents all the components of the building in detail and with precision. This supports an error-free and efficient workflow throughout the project.
Design and Planning: In the integration of mechanical and electrical systems, the BIM model enhances coordination among all disciplines, helps to identify potential clashes in advance, and thus creates time and cost savings in the project.
Maintenance and Management: The BIM model can be used as a long-term guide in the building’s operation and maintenance processes. This enables the development of an effective management and maintenance strategy throughout the entire life cycle of the building.
Collaboration and Communication: The BIM model facilitates collaboration and communication among project stakeholders. Teams from different disciplines can work on a single model, leading to a more coordinated and smooth execution of the project.
Surveyhands has put our infrastructure under spotlight with state-of-art technology. Without actually visiting our property, our guests and partners can digitally walk around the hotel without being physically in the property. They can also take measurements of the locations. That’s very efficient and time-saving. I recommend every operator who wants to showcase its property especially during pandemic period in which travel is bound with restrictions.
